You can get it via anonymous ftp at ftp.process.com [PUB.SUPPORT.52_3]TELNET_V523P030.A -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TELNET Patch kit (revision 3.0) for TCPware version 5.2-3 02-Sep-1997 Copyright (c) 1997, by Process Software Corporation This VMSinstallable saveset provides a new version of TELNET for TCPware for OpenVMS. This patch is applicable to TCPware 5.2-3 or higher on all the supported version of VAX/VMS and OpenVMS. The following change has been made: TELNET/CREATE in batch mode will no longer fail with the following error: %TCPWARE_TELNET-F-IVDEVNAM, invalid device name This kit also contains the following fix(es) from the previous patch. (1) When telnet is executed from DECwindows terminal which is connected via "LOCAL" transport, it no longer only connect to the local node. (2) SET HOST/TELNET no longer fail with the following error: %TCPWARE_TELNET-F-SYNTAX, error parsing 'PORT_NUMBER' (3) When connecting to remote IBM host through Digital's Altavista Firewall (Digital Unix version) via transparent telnet proxy server, telnet option was not properly negotiated and did not properly turn into TN3270 mode. This problem is fixed. (4) On OpenVMS VAX V6.x, users without the LOG_IO privilege would receive this error when trying to connect to a system: %TCPWARE_TELNET-E-CONNLOST, connection to remote host lost -SYSTEM-F-NOLOG_IO, operation requires LOG_IO privilege The old version of TELNET will be renamed to TCPWARE_COMMON:[TCPWARE]TELNET.EXE_OLD Once installed, you may undo this patch by renaming the file back to TCPWARE_COMMON:[TCPWARE]TELNET.EXE ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Mon, 8 Jun 1998 20:11:47 -0400 Message-ID: <357C7CD5.441FA193@allianceelec.com> Date: Mon, 08 Jun 1998 17:07:52 -0700 From: Barry Treahy Reply-To: Info-TCPware@process.com MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Info-TCPware@process.com Subject: WEBCNF Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit A question about the WEBCNF interface with TCPware, the docs state (page 4.73) that you need a local username and password... I've been told by the tech support people that it can't be done. I'm a bit obstinate and feel that even though the TN3270 mode of operation is not directly supported, there may still be a way to do this. I'm now trying to use the routines to connect, receive, and send with a conversion routine (EBCDIC to ASCII and the converse) interleaved. Has anyone using TCPware tried this, specifically preparing a robot operator function in DEC C with the TCPware Telnet library routines to connect to an IBM mainframe and send and acquire data therefrom. thanks, -vince -- If you can't understand it, it is intuitively obvious ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Thu, 18 Jun 1998 09:38:22 -0400 Subject: Re: Voting for New Featurs in TCPWare-TCP Message-ID: <1998Jun18.091940@process.com> From: volz@process.com (Bernie Volz) Reply-To: Info-TCPware@process.com Date: 18 Jun 98 09:19:40 -0400 To: Info-TCPware@PROCESS.COM > Follows, I'll try to explain several suggestions for implementaion in the > TCPWare-TCP: > > 1) User written "metric service" - facility for customisation of "metric factor > computation", this features is take place in the UCX (see synopsis of the > UCX$BIND_CPU_RATING logicals name). This already exists in TCPware - you do need to write your own program to do this and set the TCPWARE_TCLB_BIAS. If you want to use your own calculated load, then the program needs to define this logical such that the first equivalence string is 0 (to multiple the TCPware calculated value by 0) and then place your value in the 2nd equivalence string. In the V5.3 documentation, see the Management Guide, pages 1-39 and 1-40. Note: We are evaluating whether this "load balancing" feature is really critical to customers. It has some problems (mainly DNS caching issues) and there is also the more standard DNS round-robin support that we might use instead. > 2) Pseudo-device support with functionality like a UCX pseudo-interface (UCX SET > INTERFACE WEA0 ...) - this feature expected on the nearest release of TCPWare-TCP. The client PCs use Teamlinks Mail and use IP as the transport. We've been experiencing the following problem with the configuration. The problem occurs at random times, but usually on weekends. When it occurs, we have to shut down and reboot the VAX to clear it, so you can understand that it's becoming VERY annoying! I'm assuming the culprit to be TCPWare, because both IP access to A1Mail and TELNET access are affected. Here's what happens: The A1Mail MUAS$SERVER process goes into MUTEX state and can't be killed or restarted. All Teamlinks Mail clients are disconnected. No response is received from the VAX when trying to TELNET it. The NTnn: terminal device for the session is created, but no information is sent to the terminal trying to establish the connection. Trying to kill the NTnnn: terminal logon process on the VAX results in it going into RWAST state. Stopping and restarting TCPWare does not clear the problem. Any ideas on what's going on? Just for clarity, cluster here is the load balancing "cluster" which is not the same as a VMS cluster (TCPware's load balancing is not VMScluster based). The updates occur about every 40 seconds (give or take). We use the logical for each of these updates. You should set up your program to just calculate the load at the frequency you need (probably no more often than once every 30 seconds, but it can also be once every 5 minutes if you like). - Bernie Volz Process Software
