Message-ID: <610hkt$e4d$1@Nntp1.mcs.net> From: James W. Barr Date: 2 Oct 1997 16:20:45 GMT I notice a small anomyly in Microsoft's Outlook Express program when using it to retrieve mail from my TCPware POP3 server. When I select "Leave mail on server", it actually doesn't. It copies the message to the PC as expected then deletes it from the server regardless of the settings on the Windows side. The server is TCPware's POP3 server. I have used Eudora lite and have NEVER had this problem. The version of Outlook Express is the one shipped with the release version of MSIE4. UIDL command support was added with TCPware 5.2-3 which was released this spring. I tested Outlook Express with the latest TCPware and it works fine and leaves the message. My guess is that you have TCPware which does not support UIDL, then OE issued UIDL command, find out that server does not support it, and then decided to not to leave the message on the server in delete it. With TCPware, for example, you have the NETCP.LOG file that logs all incoming connections, giving the remote IP address and terminal created and time. You can also modify TELNET_CONTROL.COM to treat TELNET users as LOCAL users - the effect of this is that more information is logged in the VMS accounting system because the TT_ACCPORNAM field is stored with LOCAL records (by default, TELNET users are treated as REMOTE users). If you provide more details (O/S, TCP/IP stack, what the user is trying to do and what you do/don't want him to do), we may be able to provide more details. - Bernie Volz Process Software ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Fri, 10 Oct 1997 21:55:36 +0100 Subject: DCPS Message-ID: <0+e3PAAIZpP0EwlE@shepmarc.demon.co.uk> From: Marc Sheppard Date: Fri, 10 Oct 1997 21:55:36 +0100 MIME-Version: 1.0 Can DEC DCPS printing be run across TCPWARE. You didn't mention what kind of printer this was, if it's something like a serial printer on a DECserver, or a HP network card, other other non-DEC-Printerserver printer, you cannot do this. You can (if UCX supports it, I think it does) create a permanent telnet port, then treat it as a serial connection from DCPS. The downside is that DCPS will never let go of that port if the queue is idle, so the printer can only be used from one machine (it does let go if you stop the queue). DCPS 1.4 is reliably rumored to support direct TCP connections ("Raw" TCP) to other kinds of printers, but is hung up in another DEC software firesale and I haven't heard when it will be released). If your organization has a Year 2000 compliance program we recommend going to version 5.3 before 12/31/99 as part of your usual software maintenance actions. ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Tue, 21 Oct 1997 16:46:50 GMT Subject: Why do I get 'operation requires LOG_IO privilege' message Message-ID: <344cdbbb.117756189@mrnews.mro.dec.com> From: nathan.sivapatham@digital.com (Nathan SIVAPATHAM) Date: Tue, 21 Oct 1997 16:46:50 GMT Hi all Why do I get the operation requires LOG_IO privilege message Nathan ================================================================================ Archive-Date: XXX, 21 Oct 1997 20:08:27 -0400 Subject: Re: Why do I get 'operation requires LOG_IO privilege' message Message-ID: <1997Oct21.200827@process.com> From: volz@process.com (Bernie Volz) Date: 21 Oct 97 20:08:27 -0400 References: <344cdbbb.117756189@mrnews.mro.dec.com> In article <344cdbbb.117756189@mrnews.mro.dec.com>, nathan.sivapatham@digital.com (Nathan SIVAPATHAM) writes: > Hi all > > Why do I get the > operation requires LOG_IO privilege > message > > Nathan Could you be a bit more specific about when you get this? What are you doing when this message is issued? There was a case where the TCPware TELNET client issued this message. If that is the case, please get an update kit (TELNET_V523P030.A for TCPware 5.2) from FTP.PROCESS.COM. MGFTP is a freeware FTP client and server for OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS Alpha. It features STRU VMS support, full anonymous FTP support (including per-user anonymous FTP areas), and lots more. V2.2-3 fixes a bug in transferring stream files, adds updated timezone support, and now displays the estimated time remaining when CTRL-A or CTRL-T is pressed during file transfers. MGFTP uses MadGoat's NETLIB software, which allows it to run with all the major TCP/IP implementations for VMS. For more information, see: http://www.madgoat.com/mgftp.html You can find it on ftp.madgoat.com in [.MADGOAT]MGFTP.ZIP, as well as the WKU archives (ftp.wku.edu in [.VMS.FILESERV]) and its mirrors.
