If there is some interest in this changed version I might make it availble or mail it to somebody who likes it... I believe there is one available from MAILSERV@ualr.edu and commercial products called Omtool (or that may be the company name), Huddle and CoSy. Which one do you (or anyone else reading this) use? Any recommendations would be appreciated, especially with contact details! Thanks. The HP JetDirect speaks TCP/IP and Novell IPX. (If there is any additional protocol, it was not important enough for us to remember...) We configured TCP/IP and had lots of problem to start printing, because nobody of us found the TCP Port Number in the manuals. It is "9100" as I found in a Posting (I can't remember in which group). We setup queues for TCP/IP with TCPware: Server queue NEPTUN$1ED_3, idle, on NEPTUN::"adhara,9100,noff", mounted form POSTSCRIPT /BASE_PRIORITY=3 /DEFAULT=(FORM=POSTSCRIPT) /NOENABLE_GENERIC /OWNER=[_1ED,1ED] /PROCESSOR=TCPWARE_TSSYM /PROTECTION=(S:E,O:D,G:E,W:W) /SCHEDULE=(NOSIZE) Generic printer queue Q$1ED_3 /GENERIC=(VENUS$1ED_3,NEPTUN$1ED_3) /OWNER=[_1ED,1ED] /PROTECTION=(S:E,O:D,G:E,W:W) Server queue VENUS$1ED_3, idle, on VENUS::"adhara,9100,noff", mounted form POSTSCRIPT /BASE_PRIORITY=3 /DEFAULT=(FORM=POSTSCRIPT) /NOENABLE_GENERIC /OWNER=[_1ED,1ED] /PROCESSOR=TCPWARE_TSSYM /PROTECTION=(S:E,O:D,G:E,W:W) /SCHEDULE=(NOSIZE) We had no chance to use the /AUTOSTART feature with the TCPWARE_TSSYM symbiont. We used to setup DCPS with a HP Laserjet on the serial line: Printer queue Q$UAV_1, idle, on IO::LTA9968:, mounted form POSTSCRIPT /AUTOSTART_ON=(IO::LTA9968:) /BASE_PRIORITY=3 /DEFAULT=(FORM=POSTSCRIPT) /NOENABLE_GENERIC /LIBRARY=DCPS$DEVCTL Lowercase /OWNER=[_UAV,UAV] /PROCESSOR=DCPS$SMB /PROTECTION=(S:E,O:D,G:E,W:W) /SCHEDULE=(NOSIZE) I think there is no way to combine these queues, because of the symbionts. Our problem is, to decide what advantage (DCPS file format detection and conversion, ... <--> Enhanced performance with Ethernet Card for Postscript) to use in the future, if we cannot use both. (Probably it will be the JetDirect solution, because of IPX for our PCs) So, I am looking for any idea to get the functions combined in any way... Yup. The symbionts are different and hence can't be used. The DCPS$SMB symbiont probably only supports LAT and direct links? Perhaps DEC will add TCP support to it someday and that should then work with TCPware (via the UCX Emulation). >Our problem is, to decide what advantage (DCPS file format detection and >conversion, ... <--> Enhanced performance with Ethernet Card for Postscript) >to use in the future, if we cannot use both. It's mainly a special DCL-Table with lots of standard DCL-commands removed and other commands for the BBS added. This way I can use all the standard security features and Accounting tools of VMS - and it is very easy to expand it. On the other hand I'm not yet on the internet (that's still my dream but not yet possible because of some money reasons [it's just a hobby], so I'm using the TCP/IP mainly for SLIP and NFS) Greetings, Martin Winter -- ------------------------------------------------------------------- | Sunshine@pegasus.ch | It seems that we can't convience | | Sysop of PEGASUS BBS | the human race to survive, but | | BBS Phone: +41-71-71 55 77 | how can we ask them to NOT tug | | X.25: +228 475212574 | the nature with them into dead ? | -------------------------------------------------------------------
